Questions managers ask,answered plainly.
20 answers about how ShiftWerx works, what it costs, and how to get started.
The basics
3 questionsShiftWerx is employee scheduling software for shift-based teams like restaurants, retail stores and small businesses. It collects availability and time-off requests, builds the weekly schedule automatically, and covers call-outs through a shift marketplace.
Anyone who builds a schedule for an hourly team: restaurant GMs, store managers and owners of small businesses. It works for a team of eight or a group of locations, each on its own subscription.
Yes. ShiftWerx is on the App Store and Google Play. Staff see their schedule, set availability, request time off and pick up open shifts from their phones.
Availability & time off
2 questionsStaff request time off in the app. The request waits for your approval and does not block the schedule until you approve it. Approved time off becomes a hard block auto-schedule never breaks.
Yes. Staff keep their recurring availability current in the app, shift by shift, like no Monday or Wednesday lunches for class. New Cannot Work times come to you for approval first, and the next schedule you build uses it.
Building the schedule
3 questionsYou freeze any shifts you want to keep and press auto-schedule. ShiftLogic fills the rest while checking availability, approved time off, hour caps, rest between shifts, roles and your labor budget. You review, adjust anything, and publish.
Not an AI black box. You stay in control. ShiftLogic is a rules-based engine, not a machine-learning model. It never breaks your hard rules (availability, approved time off, hour caps, rest between shifts, roles and frozen shifts), and it chooses between the qualified people using weights you can adjust. Press it again and you get a different good schedule that follows every same rule, so you can keep going until one fits. What it builds is a draft you can change, and nothing reaches your team until you publish.
Yes. Auto-schedule produces a draft. Move anything you like, and nothing reaches your team until you publish.
Call-outs & swaps
2 questionsThe open shift goes to the ShiftMarket, where only people who are qualified and would stay under their hour caps can claim it. You can add a ShiftCoin bonus to fill it faster. The first qualified person to claim it gets the shift, and you’re notified right away.
ShiftCoin is the incentive built into ShiftWerx. Managers can put a ShiftCoin bonus on a hard-to-fill shift or an important update so staff have a reason to act.
